Alcoholism. Patrice had a long history of alcoholism that essentially cost her her marriage and eventually her life and her child's life. Her husband Keith reported leaving her after a drunken physical altercation she had with him on a cruise two years prior. He agreed to pay for her rental home so their daughter had a safe place to stay, but the arrangement went south after her DUI and continued drinking.
The Job. Keith reportedly told Patrice she had to get a job to pay for her DUI costs, which she happily obliged for the chance to have social interaction. She had friends and co-workers giving her rides to and from work and driving their daughter to and from school on the one day a week she was allowed visitation.
On the Mend. Patrice had told her friends and family that she was on the mend from her alcoholism and would sober up on days she had her daughter. She reportedly was taking AA classes and attending church to beat her addictions.
The Agreement. Her sober track was the only reason Keith had agreed to allow his daughter to stay with Patrice while he was away on business that week. When he returned from his trip and spoke with police, he said, "It would be like Patrice to go out that way."
Driving Drunk. Receipts were found along with trash and empty bottles of liquor scattered around Patrice in the vehicle and on the ground. She had apparently purchased breakfast burritos at a nearby McDonald's. The trash next to her matched the receipts.
Surveillance Video. There was also reportedly a surveillance video of the pair at a local Karz Drive-In restaurant. The video clearly shows Patrice driving and a girl "with Nicole's build" is next to her according to local news.
Intoxicated Tragedy. By the time authorities found their bodies 12 hours later, rigor mortis had already set in, suggesting Patrice was fully intoxicated while driving through the restaurant drive-thrus earlier that morning.
